ORCHID CARE: How to FEED your ORCHID: Phalaenopsis: Which fertilzer, how much and how often?

This video shows how to feed your orchid for best results and repeat blooms. Besides light, water, humidity and temperature requirements orchids need a good fertilzer, to get not just a healthy plant but spectacular blooms. Most home and garden retail stores stock this fertiliser. I have mostly used orchid fertiliser ( Shultz) and for 5-6 waterings when the plant was finished blooming I used Miracle Gro. Mostly fertilsed every watering ( 7-10 days) and skipped fertiliser one in four waterings. My plants are one year old and were bought in bloom, rebloomed after cutting the spikes and now have new primary spikes. Enjoy!

@IndianaMatt85 You are most welcome, I feel happy that others are learning along with me how to care for these lovely plants! New leaves are a good, a new spike is even better. As long as you have healthy roots it is just a matter of time before your orchid confidently puts out new spikes…….

    Hi Sooneaty,

Thanks for all your great orchid info. I got my first orchid back in July and have found your videos very helpful as I’m new to growing orchids. My orchid has grown 2 new leaves since July. I can’t wait to see how much it grown this summer when the weather is more sunny and warmer.

If it does not irritate you too much leave it alone…….Suggest you feed your orchid every watering with orchid food. Your orchid is in survival mode and needs to focus on staying well with good roots and leaves and then it will spend energy on flowers. Patience ……enjoy yourself with other things……

I would leave it alone for a few more weeks. Reblooms usually should come back in 2-3 months after cutting the primary spoike. I usually just leave them there, after all in nature no one cuts anything off and the plant keeps producing new spikes.

I have cut a spike to get a secondary spike. The spike is still green but it hasnt formed a secondary spike. Should I still leave it or cut it off

Can you make videos more often they are really helpful. Now, my African violets finished blooming so I have no flowering plant now. Can you make a video explaining how to care for an orchid to get it to spike and do I give it blooming fertilizer? Should I repot it to the bark yet. It has been soaking for about 1 month. The orchid looks healthier. Tell me what to do. I WANT BLOOMS!
